Local Yacht Equipment Salesman defrauds thousands of dollars from customers

Martin County, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- The Martin County Sheriff has reported that a Local Yacht Equipment Salesman defrauded thousands of dollars from customers. They said he used supply chain and Covid as an excuse for long delays for equipment that was never ordered.

This is what happened:

37-year-old Blake Hasson told his customers that the orders were in, but because of the supply chain crises and covid, there were constant delays. What customers didn’t know is that Hasson was taking their money for high end boating equipment, but never ordering it. Instead, he created a fake square account, ran their credit cards, and stole the money.
Blake Hasson was a salesman for Palm City Yachts on SE Gran Park Way in Stuart. Hasson, who was an employee, would sell customers boat motors and similar equipment taking large deposits, as much as $20,000 in some cases. Detectives say he ran customer’s credit cards through a device that diverted the money to a shell account he created. After weeks of waiting, customers continued to inquire to Hasson about the equipment. He blamed one national crisis after the other to buy more time.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office currently has 26-open cases referencing Blake Hasson.
Detectives believe the losses to customers exceed $100,000.00 and they believe there are more victims who do not yet know they have been defrauded. Detectives say the owners of the business were not involved and are working to identify those who Hasson victimized.
Blake Hasson, who resides in Palm Beach Gardens, was arrested in Palm Beach County on drug trafficking charges. He will be transferred to Martin County to face multiple grand theft and scheme to defraud charges.
If you believe you may have been a victim of Blake Hasson, you are asked to call the Martin County Sheriff’s Office at 772-220-7060.
