Light vigil held for toxic algae awareness on Roosevelt Bridge

Stuart, Fl- Local concerned citizens met at the Roosevelt Bridge on Friday night. Their goal was to raise their voices to educate the public in the hopes of keeping their waterway alive.

Indian RiverKeeper Marty Baum created 10 signs with light with three messages. The first one is “Water is life”. The next one is “Our water is toxic” And the third one is his slogan “Demand clean water”.

The vigil was created by the online community #toxic18. They are a local group who started a Facebook page to document the toxic algae, share events and bring the community together. They have almost 5,000 members.

Besides documenting they took on the issue of warning signs in the water. The City of Stuart have put signs up to warn citizens to stay away from the water.
