Kids Create New Non-Profit

Treasure Coast Hope For The Homeless Foundation was inspired by four young girls who wanted to help people in need.  Karina Del Toro (age 15), Alexandria Del Toro (age 11), Kayliegh Cunningham (age 11), and Mallory Cunningham (age 15) starting working on the concept in 2011.  Ivy Cunningham (age 7) has also joined the efforts of the Foundation.

The girls raised funds for the homeless by holding lemonade stands and selling used and donated jewelry at various garage sales.  They expanded and began asking family, friends, and neighbors to donate.  Soon they collected clothing and other essential items for the homeless and low income families.

The young girls soon realized they needed a drop off point for people to make their donations.  They approached Morningside Church in Port St. Lucie, and established a clothing drop off box just outside the children’s ministries.  Over the past four years hundreds of bags full of clothing and hygiene products were collected and distributed to various non-profit organizations within the community.

The Treasure Coast Hope For The Homeless Foundation was incorporated earlier this year as a 501C3 non-profit organization.  Their mission is to partner with places of worship as drop off locations in order to collect clothing and monetary donations. Their goal is to provide low income families and the homeless with the basic life essentials in order to be clean, safe, and warm.  “We continue to support other non-profit organizations as we believe partnerships with our community and helping others achieve success is critical to achieving our mission,” stated Richard Del Toro, President of the Foundation and father of Karina and Alexandria.

There are numerous opportunities to support the Foundation and our community.  The Treasure Coast Hope For The Homeless Foundation accepts used infant, children and adult clothing, school supplies (paper, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, and backpacks) and any hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, and first aid kits.
