Ken Graham new director of NOAA’s National Hurricane Center
Miami, Fla (TreasureCoast.com) There is a new face at the helm of the National Hurricane Center. Mr Graham headed the National Weather Service in New Orleans. He will start April 1.
Graham has vast experience working with emergency managers prior to and during a wide variety of weather threats and spent time deployed with officials at emergency operations centers. His career with NOAA began in 1994, after working as a broadcast meteorologist at WCBI-TV in Mississippi. Graham earned a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science from the University of Arizona and holds a master’s degree in geoscience from Mississippi State University.
According to Graham, the biggest challenges is to make sure the public pays attention to the tropical weather information.
A top researcher has hinted that, if current conditions don’t change, the upcoming Atlantic Hurricane Season could be an active one. Phil Klotzbach of Colorado State University spoke at the National Hurricane Conference in Orlando. He said those conditions include a weak La Nina event and slightly warmer than normal temperature in the Atlantic. He also said things could change between now and the peak of the season.
Klotzbach will release his Hurricane forecast on April 5th.
Hurricane Season begins on June 1.
