Lighthouse Lecture Series: The US Coast Guard in Jupiter and Hobe Sound

Jan 18, 6-7 pm

Join us in the Museum Quarterdeck as Staff shares the latest discoveries in local historical research and new findings from our ever expanding Museum’s collection. The Lighthouse Service merged with the Coast Guard in 1939, but the Coast Guard has had a much larger role in our area than many people recognize. Historian Josh Liller will cover not only the military operation of the lighthouse, but also the local Loran Stations. This presentation will feature the latest research and photos from the Coast Guard Historian’s office and several servicemen assigned here. Q&A will follow. Free to the public, Space is limited & RSVP required to 561-747-8380 X101. www.jupiterlighthouse.org  Location:  Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, 500 Captain Armour’s Way, Jupiter.

Outreach Speaker Series: Spencer Stereoviews
Mar 9, 2018, 2-3 pm at Jupiter Public Library
19th century pioneer lighthouse keepers Melville Spencer and Fred Whitehead took what may be the only photos of the Jupiter and Lake Worth areas prior to 1890.  These rare images depict the lighthouse, Seminoles, pioneer residents, early homes and agriculture, and wilderness scenes that would be unrecognizable to many modern residents of the area. Learn about Spencer and his lesser known predecessor, Fred Whitehead, and see many examples of their work. Join Historian Josh Liller from the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum for this free presentation at the Jupiter Public Library, 705 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458

Wild & Scenic Film Festival

April 14, 2018, :00-9:30 pm

Tickets $10 online at Jupiterlighthouse.org

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is one of the nation’s premiere environmental and adventure film festivals in North America being hosted in our own backyard. These international short films are a call to action! Soul-stirring stories and grand sweeping vistas give us a sense of place and what it means to be responsible stewards of the earth. They illustrate not only the challenges facing our planet but the work communities are doing to protect the environment and the places we love. They also portray the magnetic draw of nature and the adventurous side of the human spirit.

We will once again be joined by local community organizations who will share with you how you can get involved in loving and caring for our earth. Films will be shown at the waterfront Lighthouse on the “big screen.”  Food, sodas, beer & wine will be available for purchase. Live musical performance. All proceeds support the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum. Bring beach or lawn chairs. Outside food & drinks and pets not permitted.

Tickets are $10 per person, purchase online beginning March Mar 12, 2018. Due to the limited availability of tickets, we recommend early ticket purchase, tickets are non-refundable. www.jupiterlighthouse.org   Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, 500 Captain Armour’s Way, Jupiter.#WSFFJupiter  @JupiterLH  #jupiterlighthouse
