JERRY VAN DYKE DIES AT 86

JERRY VAN DYKE DIES AT 86

Here is link Jerry’s Wikapedia Page. You can read about his life there. My story is a little slice of that life.

In 2010, I was shooting all the back stories at the Delray Beach Film Festival. I always had a short film in the festival and one year won for “Best Environmental Short doc for my “Garbage of Jupiter Beach.” Every year was great fun filled with filmmakers and our local film friends. You never walked away without making friends. Michael  Pozner ,the festival founder and director ,created the most fun and best experience for all of us.

I love shooting these video and getting to know people. We were all in the Filmmaker Lounge and i think it was my friend Tina who said I think that Jerry Van Dyke is sitting over there.

What you won’t see on any newscast is that Jerry wrote, produced and directed a hysterical documentary called  “What’s eating Jerry Van Dyke.”

Here is a little clip.

Jerry came to the film festival with his lovely wife Shirley. They did not know a soul but they happily sat and people watched. Well, until we went over and introduced ourselves.

Here is the interview, Jerry getting his “Directorial debut award.” and the q&a after the film.

Jerry was hysterically funny. He showed us to give ourselves facelifts with tape.

A wonderful, warm, funny man.
