Investigators Id’d teen killed in Indian River Lagoon

Investigators have identified the teen killed in Sunday’s boating incident in the Indian River Lagoon.

The victim is 15-year-old James F. Graves of Vero Beach. He went to Vero Beach High School.

Investigators with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission say the boat had two juveniles on board, Graves and the unidentified operator of the 17-foot Boston Whaler center console boat.

The boat was going south on the Indian River in the Intracoastal Waterway. Graves fell into the water in an area about a half-mile south of the 17th Street Bridge.

It’s not yet clear on what sent Graves into the water, but he did not come back up.

A dive team from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office found his body under water three hours later.
