Indian River wanted con woman arrested

Indian River, FL- Heather Grey (32) of Vero Beach was arrested yesterday. The arrest was on outstanding warrants for violation of probation. Her original arrest stems from thefts at CJ Cannons restaurant in Vero Beach where she was employed at the time. Grey received probation which she ultimately violated, resulting in three warrants for her arrest being issued in June 2017. Since becoming a fugitive, Grey has posted to social media indicating she has medical issues including cancer, and privately messaged friends and family for money. Speaking with those who were asked for money, Grey would comment that her doctors office “only accepted cash” for these cancer treatments, asking for increments of $60-$75. Recently, it was learned that Grey began telling friends and family that she was working with Major Eric Flowers to “catch a dirty cop” requesting friends to provide funds to “set him up” (the alleged dirty cop).

Today, a search warrant was obtained for Grey’s residence, located in the 1700 block of 20th Street SW, where she was ultimately taken into custody upon returning home.

Grey had several needles in her possession. One was loaded with a brown liquid substance believed to be an opioid. Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “The opioid epidemic is very real and Heather Grey is a perfect example of what we have seen in our county. She has been lying to her friends and family about having cancer to get money for drugs. Since her arrest the IRCSO have heard from dozens of people. They heard the same story about needing cash for cancer treatments. Fortunately, many of her friends did not send money. We have confirmed approximately five people who did provide money via Facebook and Paypal..”
Grey remains at the Indian River County Jail without bond for violation of probation warrants. Further drug charges are pending, while investigation continues into the extent of her scams. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is seeking any other victims of Heather Grey. Anyone with information about her should call 772-978-6075. Grey is also considered a person of interest in the recent scams.  A caller was posing as Major Flowers telling people they had outstanding warrants and demanding payment via gift card.
