The vehicle drove recklessly through southern Brevard County before entering Indian River County via I-95 at 12:39 p.m. The vehicle continued driving recklessly at speeds of approximately 100 mph southbound in the northbound lanes of I-95, before pulling off at the Fellsmere/Sebastian exit.

Uniformed patrol deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, at which point the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed eastbound on County Road 512. The vehicle later traveled north before crashing at Canoe Launch Cove. The driver then bailed out of the vehicle and continued to flee.

The Aviation and K-9 units responded to the area and within 10 minutes, the driver was located in a nearby lake and taken into custody without further incident.

The driver was identified as Shawn Foster, of Cocoa, Fla. He faces charge that include aggravated flee and elude, resisting arrest without violence, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.

Additional charges related to the original grand theft auto will be filed by the Titusville Police Department.
About an hour later, the Sheriff’s Office Real Time Crime Center issued an alert regarding a vehicle operating with a stolen license plate. Uniformed patrol deputies located the vehicle pulling into the Home Depot parking lot off State Road 60 and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, westbound in the eastbound lanes of travel of SR60.

Patrol units broke off their pursuit and the vehicle continued to northbound I-95. The vehicle made several U-turns across the highway in both directions before it eventually entered Brevard County.

The Aviation Unit picked up the pursuit for nearly the next 40 minutes as the vehicle continued to drive recklessly. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit then took over and followed the vehicle for another 30 minutes.

Eventually, the vehicle pulled into a parking lot and the driver ditched his vehicle. Uniformed patrol units with BCSO and the Rockledge Police Department located and arrested the driver shortly thereafter.

The driver was identified as Jatavious Cox, of Miami, Fla., who is currently on felony probation from a prior conviction for kidnapping. Cox faces various charges in Brevard County, while the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office seeks arrest warrants related to aggravated flee and elude and reckless driving.
