Indian River County Launches Broadband Survey on the Availability and Accessibility of High-Speed Internet Service

Vero Beach, FL – Today, Indian River County (IRC) launched a new survey to collect information from residents and businesses concerning broadband internet availability and accessibility in Indian River County. The County encourages all businesses and residents to complete the broadband survey which is available online in English and Spanish.

In May, the IRC Board of County Commissioners approved a proposal submitted by Magellan Advisors to conduct a Broadband Feasibility Study using funding from the County’s American Rescue Plan Act allocation. When completed, the study will determine low cost and effective ways for the County to improve the local broadband environment and infrastructure, with a focus on rural and underserved areas.

“All Indian River County residents play a key role in the success of the Broadband Feasibility Study,” said County Commissioner Susan Adams. “The data provided in the short survey will help us identify gaps in high-speed internet service and assist in developing a community-specific strategy to increase broadband communications across the County.”

“Broadband has become an essential tool for many residents in Indian River County, and we saw this firsthand when businesses and schools were closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Jason Brown, Indian River County Administrator. “For some, the need to work remotely or attend school from home was a challenge because of unreliable broadband services. This survey will give us a baseline understanding of the County’s current internet supply and demand, so it is important that all of our businesses and residents participate.”

Individuals and businesses should complete the brief survey on a computer or laptop that is directly connected to their network router or using Wi-Fi connection.
