Indian River County to Host Human Trafficking Awareness Forum

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FL – On behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, Commissioner Tim Zorc will host a Human Trafficking Awareness Forum on the evening of March 13, 2019, at the County’s Administration Building A, 1801 27th Street, in Vero Beach.

“Human trafficking is a growing problem in the United States and, unfortunately, Florida is a prime port-of-entry and operating area for the traffickers.  Lately, we’ve been among the top three states nationally in terms of the number of reported cases.  Getting the community informed and involved in recognizing and reporting what they see can really go a long way toward combatting the problem,” Zorc said.

The forum will begin at 5 PM and run until 7:30 PM, but citizens can attend any portion they choose.  The first hour, from 5 to 6 PM, will consist of an “information fair” in the foyer of the County Commission Chambers.  At 6 PM, a presentation and discussion forum will commence, with opportunities for audience questions throughout.

Organizations expected to be present include Place of Hope, the Sheriff’s Office of Indian River County, the State Attorney’s Office of the 19th Judicial Circuit, and the Human Trafficking Coalition of the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee.

No RSVP is required for the event, and Commissioner Zorc’s office can be reached at 772-226-1919 to answer any outstanding questions
