Indian River County Encourages Residents to Prepare for the 2021 Hurricane Season

Vero Beach, FL (treasurecoast.com) – Indian River County (IRC) Emergency Services is encouraging residents to prepare and plan for the upcoming 2021 hurricane season. The 2021 Atlantic hurricane season will take place from June 1 through November 30, so it is important to make a plan now to protect your home, family and business before the storm season begins.

“Now is the time for Indian River County residents to prepare for hurricane season,” said Chief Tad Stone, Indian River County Department of Emergency Services. “We know that planning for a hurricane or other potential disaster can be stressful. By making simple preparations like developing an emergency plan and making a disaster supply kit, you can ensure your family or business is ready for a storm before it strikes.”

Here are some resources for residents to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season:

  • IRC Disaster Preparedness Guide: This comprehensive guide includes important emergency phone numbers, disaster supply kit checklist, a list of local shelters, tips on what to do before and after a storm, and much more. 2021 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday

Florida’s annual Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday starts this week and will take place from May 28 to June 6, 2021, for Floridians to purchase disaster preparedness supplies. Some tax-free items include flashlights, radios, tarps, coolers and generators. Indian River County residents are encouraged to participate in this sales tax holiday by making a list of supplies and assembling their disaster supply kit before a storm watch is put in place.
