Hurricane Irma Relief/ Recovery Fund For Indian River County

Vero Beach, FL, September 25, 2017 – In an effort to provide assistance to Indian River County residents who sustained damage and unexpected expenses associated with Hurricane Irma which has led to housing instability, a relief and recovery fund has been established at the Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council [TCHSC].  By utilizing funds provided by the United Way of Indian River Co. and the John’s Island Community Service League, TCHSC will be able to provide assistance. Included is  qualifying residents rental assistance, deposit assistance, utility assistance, temporary housing assistance, limited mortgage assistance and assistance with home repairs.  Case managers will also assist with FEMA applications, food stamp applications, etc. in conjunction with the assistance provided.

Following are the eligibility requirements for assistance from this fund, IRC renters or homeowners must:

  • be at or below 80% of county’s average median income;
  • show proof of hurricane related damage (pictures),
  • have loss or income due to the storm (paystubs, letter from employers, etc.), or
  • have unexpected expenses related to evacuation or additional costs associated with the hurricane (receipts).

Residents will be required to utilize their FEMA funds to cover lost household items. They will then be referred to local thrift stores to assist with such items, clothing, etc.
