Martin County Urges Residents to be Prepared and Informed

Martin County Emergency Management, county leadership and municipal and public safety partners continue to participate in calls with the state emergency management team and the National Weather Service in Melbourne twice daily as we monitor the path of Hurricane Dorian.

Text ALERTMARTIN to 888777 to receive emergency alerts.

Community Information Line
Residents can call 772-287-1652 to have their storm-related questions answered between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Special Needs

The Special Needs Program provides assistance to eligible citizens in time of disaster or when an evacuation has been ordered. This may be sheltering at a general shelter. It may be  a special needs shelter that includes limited medical oversight and needs such as oxygen, as well as evacuation transportation to and from the shelter. Residents must pre-register and must renew each year. Residents can register online at www.martin.fl.us/SpecialNeeds and click on the “Online Registration” button or call the Martin County Special Needs Coordinator at 772-287-1652.

Waste Management
Crews will be following the regular pick up schedule and working through Saturday. They will clean up all vegetation and trash debris with green tags and any current work orders.

Sand Bags
Martin County’s Public Works Department makes sand and bags available to residents when an emergency is declared. We anticipate that we will have a better understanding of the projected track and impact of the storm on Martin County by Friday. If residents want to secure sandbags before that time, they are available at home improvement stores in the bagged concrete section. If a declaration is announced, we will provide details regarding sandbag availability via the county’s website and social media.

Up-to-date emergency information may be found on the county website at www.martin.fl.us/hurricane. Residents are also encouraged to follow Martin County on Twitter @martincountygov and Facebook atwww.facebook.com/MartinCountyBoardofCountyCommissioners.
