HSTC Pet of the Week 1/24/2018

Hello everyone, I’m Dakota and I am a teensy bit of a chunky Shepherd mix. Don’t worry, my New Year’s resolution is to obtain and maintain a healthy weight. The staff here at HSTC has been a great help so far. My new family will need to help me stick to my weight loss plan. I am a very sweet gal – I love being by your side as often as possible. Here at the shelter sometimes I won’t eat unless a staff member sits in my kennel with me and I tend to cry when I’m all alone. I adore being pet, but I prefer slow, gentle pets.

I haven’t lived with very young kids (most of my experience is with pre-teens and teenagers), I don’t think I’d like to live with any really little humans. I can be a bit spooked by sudden movements and I am sensitive about being touched in certain places. My favorite activities are short walks, sunbathing, and enjoying the great outdoors.

Things I do not like are car rides and vet visits – they stress me out. I do shed a lot, so be ready to brush me frequently! According to my previous owner I am house and crate trained. I also already know several basic commands, so you don’t need to teach me anything new unless you really want to. I have lived with other dogs but I take a while to warm up to them. I have also lived with cats; I prefer to pretend they aren’t there.

You can visit me and all of my adoptable friends online at hstc1.org or  stop on by the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast main shelter at 4100 SW Leighton Farm Ave. in Palm City!
