Sometimes there may become a need to relocate out of your community or town to someplace further than ever anticipated. If this situation arises, then it is necessary to do a lot of logistical planning. I have helped relocate families, medical professionals and executives who are moving in to the area from other states. There are many factors to consider when working with clients long distance. If you’re making a move to another area, here are some hints that may help with the planning.
If you know a local realtor that you trust, they should be able to refer you to a realtor in the area you are planning to go to.
I actually interview agents for my clients to make sure that they are capable and would make a good fit for them. This is important especially if you have no local ties or knowledge of the area that you will be going to. When working with a realtor long distance there is a sense of trust and I would recommend frequent phone conversations and the willingness to travel a few times to the area and see multiple properties each day. When you travel looking for a home, it is very important to make good use of your day.
I book an “all day” with my clients, which means I intend to spend 6-8 hours with them to see as many properties as possible.
Prior to the day(s) of showings, we have had multiple phone consults on the properties I have emailed them for their review and have learned their preferences along with their “wants” and “needs” lists for their suitable home. Preparation of narrowing down the houses, finding the homes at the top of their lists, leads into the day of showing with a more productive outcome. Once a home is decided upon, ALL the paperwork can be done by internet with e-signatures, faxing, including the closing if necessary.
