THE HONEST BROKER: THE HOLIDAY SEASON
During this festive holiday season, we enjoy the comfort and love of our family and friends. The joy we experience during this time is not going to be in the usual huge gatherings and parties, but mostly in the intimate settings of our homes. Our homes are central to the memories of our past and the creation of new memories in our future. This year’s holidays will undoubtedly be different than in years past but incorporating our traditions through some ingenuity will still give us that special memory for our families. I have heard of some unique and inventive ways to hold on to those traditions and thought that I should share a few of them. We want to keep our most cherished members of our family safe and this most definitely includes our oldest generation.
How can we have fun, keep our family safe and create a special memory for years to come? We certainly benefit from living in a tropical climate having no snow or frigid weather to deal with. If grandma and/or grandpa cannot attend a family gathering due to their vulnerability or illness, a simple solution could still be accomplished. Have a family parade or drive-in to their home with a wave and virtual hugs and kisses, with a designee to help take any gifts that might be given or received. This can be achieved easily and will provide a way to incorporate them free of exposure or risk. This serves two objectives, they can see their family members, participate in gift giving and the family members in the parade can bring different parts of their holiday meal.
Take the indoor celebration outside. I heard from most people that they intend to do their get-together outside this year to facilitate physical distancing. Decorate, light your yard, and possibly tweak your menu for easier serving and logistics. One family has decided to play the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” outside after dark onto a white sheet. This sounds like it would make a great memory for all generations.
However you decide to celebrate the holidays, I’m sure it will be wonderful, fun-filled and a safe family friendly way.
