THE HONEST BROKER: HOW TO CURRENTLY SHOW OR VISIT HOMES SAFELY
This is a very difficult time to be either home shopping or home selling but, not entirely out of the realm of feasibility. Here are a few tips on keeping yourself and family safe while participating in the market today.
SELLER CONSIDERATIONS:
If you are the seller, you will want to keep your home as germ free as possible. This will include providing sanitizer at the outside of the door and request that all that enter USE it. I would also suggest that you place disposable masks and antiseptic wipes alongside it at the entrance.
Place a sign on the exterior of the door requesting that all those entering the home use the items for their safety as well as your own. Have the home ready to show, including having all the lights and fans on so that no one needs to touch the switches.
Ask your realtor to include these remarks on the MLS in the “Broker Remarks” area; “This home is being shown by properly adhering to CDC guidelines; items will be made available for use.” This will convey to the buyer’s realtor that you are offering a safe environment for them to bring their clients to.
Buyers are doing a lot of online shopping, but when it comes down to making decisions, they want to go to the home and walk through it, see the neighborhood, etc. It would be wise to make them feel as comfortable as possible to come into your home and see it in person. They know that pictures do not always accurately portray the reality of the home. Therefore, it is imperative to provide them a sense of security and safety.
BUYER CONSIDERATIONS:
If you are the buyer, you will want to bring your own protection with you to enter into people’s homes. Bring a mask, small hand sanitizer or even disposable gloves with you. Consider yourself in a “public space” when entering a home. Nothing takes the place of going to view a home in person. Protect yourself and your loved ones and carry your own Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). If taking proper precautions, there will not be a hesitation to get out and home shop as was done prior to COVID-19.
