On December 10, 2017 at around 6:50 pm, Port St. Lucie Police went to the 600 block of NW Fairhaven Drive. They received a call  that the homeowner was holding a burglary suspect at gunpoint as he waits for police. Once on scene, police located the victim toward the rear of the residences pointing a gun at the suspect who was laying prone on the ground. Police took the suspect, identified as Lopes, into custody.

The victim told police that he heard noises coming from the family shed that was located in the rear of the house.  He said that as he went to investigate the noise. Then, Lopes exited the shed and came at him with a handheld drill above his head as if he were going to attack the victim.  The victim then drew his firearm and ordered Lopes to the ground.  The victim held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.

Investigation revealed that the suspect had pried open the door to the shed. He then removed several items from inside and stacked them outside the door of the shed.  During a search of the suspect police found coins, measuring tape, an electrical charger, and WD-40 belonging to the victim.

Lopes was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.
