Governor DeSantis declares a public health emergency after two cases of coronavirus emerge in Florida

Governor Ron DeSantis is declaring a public health emergency after two cases of the coronavirus emerged in Florida. State health officials are waiting for the CDC to confirm the two presumptive positive cases of the respiratory illness. Both of the patients are isolated in the Tampa Bay area and being treated. Florida’s Department of Public Health says the state’s health system is prepared to handle the illness.

The governor could shed more light on the state’s response to the coronavirus today. Governor Ron DeSantis will be in Miami with Surgeon General Scott Rivkees after two presumptive positive cases were reported yesterday. This will be at 1:30.

The Department of Health says both patients in Tampa Bay are in isolation, and the overall threat to the public is low.

Because of the coronavirus Triple-A says Florida drivers may soon see significant savings at the gas pump. Stock market prices for crude oil and gasoline plummeted last week, amid concerns that the disease will reduce global demand for products like jet fuel and gasoline.

Meanwhile, Florida’s coronavirus testing process is speeding up.
