Governor awards City of Port St. Lucie $3 million Florida Job Growth Grant

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – Governor Rick Scott announced the City of Port St. Lucie will receive a nearly $3 million Florida Job Growth Grant for infrastructure that will spark development and the creation of new jobs in the Tradition Center for Commerce.

The City’s award is one of nine Florida Job Growth Grant Fund projects across the state that will receive a total of $35 million. The $3,003,247 grant that Port St. Lucie received will pay for a loop road that will provide access to 100 acres to accommodate 1,121,234 square feet of commercial development in Tradition.

“Smart investments in infrastructure are at the foundation of a strong and growing economy. This job growth grant award will immediately retain and create hundreds of jobs, foster tens of millions of dollars of private investment and grow our local economy by nine figures,” said Port St. Lucie Mayor Gregory J. Oravec. “The long-term return on investment will be even greater as this grant helps us position our I-95 jobs corridor to be an economic engine for Port St. Lucie, the Treasure Coast and the State of Florida.  We are proud of, and thankful for, the state’s investment and commitment to improve the Tradition Center for Commerce and to help Port St. Lucie families get to work.”

The Tradition Center for Commerce consists of 900 acres slated for commercial and industrial development in the City’s jobs corridor along Interstate 95. In late 2017, City Electric Supply identified a 41-acre site within the Tradition Center for Commerce. They want to build a 400,000-square foot manufacturing and distribution facility. This loop road and water and sewer infrastructure improvements will provide access to the property for City Electric Supply, and six other parcels for potential businesses in the future.

The estimated total project cost for the loop road with water and sewer improvements is $4,003,247, and the City of Port St. Lucie will provide $1 million from the Tradition Economic Development Fund. The money for that fund was provided by two developers, Wilson Groves and Riverland/Kennedy to encourage job creation and capital investment in the jobs corridor. No taxpayer dollars will be used to fund this project.
