FWC officer killed in wrong-way crash in St. Lucie County

An FWC officer was among two people killed in a wrong-way crash in St. Lucie County on Thursday.

The crash, which happened at S. Header Canal Road and Okeechobee Road, involved an unmarked unit with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and a Kia sedan driven by a 24-year-old woman from Tampa.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of the Kia was going the wrong way on Okeechobee Road when she collided head-on with the FWC vehicle.

The woman was killed. The driver of the FWC vehicle, a 35-year-old man, was also killed. He was on-duty at the time of the crash. Authorities said he had a wife and small children.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

V01 was traveling eastbound on the westbound lanes of SR70 (Okeechobee Road). V02 was traveling east on the eastbound lanes. V01 collided with the front of V02. V01 came to final rest on its right side in the median facing west. V02 came to final rest facing southbound across the eastbound lanes

Both Drivers were pronounced dead.

Driver of V01 was born on 1998 (24 years old)/ Female from Tampa

Driver of Vehicle 2- 35yrs old/ White male
