Free Technology Training Continues at St. Lucie County Library This May

  1. LUCIE COUNTY – Free technology training workshops continue this May at various St. Lucie County Branch Libraries covering everything from computer basics to virtual reality experiences. In addition to the scheduled classes, all six branch libraries offer one-on-one technology help by appointment.

Scheduled classes for May include (advanced registration is not required):

  • Wednesday, May 4 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.  – Computer Basics at the Zora Neale Hurston Library, 3008 Ave. D in Fort Pierce. Learn the basics in this hands-on workshop. We‘ll review beginner-level “how-to’s” such as using the mouse and accessing the internet. Laptops provided. Space is limited to the first 10 people.
  • Wednesday, May 4 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. – Memory Studio Open House at the Susan Broom Kilmer Library, 101 Melody Lane in Fort Pierce. Take a tour of the library’s new Memory Studio and learn about preserving your memories with a focus on scanning photographs.

  • Wednesday, May 4 at 2:30 p.m. – Microsoft Word Basics at the Morningside Library, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. Learn the basics of Microsoft Word including creating and opening files, formatting, headers and footers, and more.
  • Friday, May 6 from 9 to 10 a.m. – Library Database Resources at the Lakewood Park Library, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive in Fort Pierce. Discover the many free database resources your system has to offer; digital learning, library apps and more.

  • Wednesday, May 11 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. – Memory Studio Open House at the Kilmer Library, 101 Melody Lane in Fort Pierce. Tour the library’s new Memory Studio and learn how to digitize older documents. This week’s focus will be on editing photographs scanned in the Memory Studio.
  • Friday, May 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Tech Talk at the Paula Lewis Branch Library, 2950 SW Rosser Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. Learn how to get free books on your tablets, PC and smartphones using Libby and CloudLibrary.

  • Saturday, May 14 at 2:30 p.m. – CloudLibrary at the Morningside Library, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. Whether it’s an eBook or an Audiobook, we’ve got you covered. Check out this free library service to easily download books and audiobooks.
  • Wednesday, May 18 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. – Powerful Passwords at the Hurston Library, 3008 Ave. D in Fort Pierce. Learn how to protect yourself online with strong passwords and get tips on how to safely store information in our digital world. This workshop is a basic level introduction to personal online safety.

  • Wednesday, May 18 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. – Memory Studio Open House at the Kilmer Library, 101 Melody Lane in Fort Pierce. Stop by for a tour of the new Memory Studio with a focus on digitizing VHS tapes.
  • Friday, May 20 from 9 to 10 a.m. – Google Basics at Lakewood Park Library, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive in Fort Pierce. Come join us as we explore some of the fundamental features that Google has to offer such as Gmail, internet searches, Google Drive and more.

  • Friday, May 20 at 2:30 p.m. – iPhone Basics at the Morningside Library, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. You will learn the different features and functions of your Apple device. Once you complete this series, you’re sure to know the ins and outs.
  • Wednesday, May 25 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. – Memory Studio Open House at the Kilmer Library, 101 Melody Lane in Fort Pierce.  Learn about preserving your memories in our new Memory Studio. This week’s open house will focus on editing home videos using Adobe Premiere Elements.

  • Friday, May 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Tech Talk at the Lewis Library, 2950 SW Rosser Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. Your smartphone has loads of features. Learn some tips and tricks.

Virtual Reality Session – Don’t miss a chance to immerse yourself in a 3D world. The virtual reality sessions are open to everyone, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Kilmer Branch Library, 101 Melody Lane, Fort Pierce
  • Saturday, May 7 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Lewis Branch Library, 2950 SW Rosser Blvd., Port St. Lucie.
  • Thursday, May 12 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch Library,  7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce.
  • Saturday, May 21 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Hurston Branch Library, 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce.
  • Saturday, May 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Morningside Branch Library, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie.

For residents who would like more individual assistance, all six branch libraries offer one-on-one technology help for adults by appointment.  Adults can contact their local branch library to schedule a session. Please remember to bring all your passwords, St. Lucie County Library card and make sure all your devices are fully charged.

A reminder that all St. Lucie County Libraries have expanded Wi-Fi available from the parking lot 24 hours a day; seven days a week.
