Free Household Hazardous Waste Event, Oct. 15

Free Household Hazardous Waste Event, Oct. 15

What: Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
When: Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, from 8 a.m. to noon
Where: Public Works Facility, 450 SW Thornhill Drive
Why: Residents are invited to participate in a free Household Hazardous Waste(HHW) Collection Day. Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful (KPSLB) offers the City of Port St. Lucie and St. Lucie County residents (ID’s required) an environmentally safe way to dispose of hazardous household waste.
The Public Works facility will serve as a convenient drop-off location for residents with household hazardous wastes such as bug sprays, computers/electronics, drain cleaners, fire extinguishers, fluorescent light bulbs/tubes, fuels and more.
Residents may bring up to 4 tires, no rims, per vehicle up to 20” in diameter. Household fats, oils or grease (F.O.G) accumulated from cooking, frying, and general food preparation will be accepted in less than 5-gallon containers. Only households may use the service to dispose of hazardous wastes. No commercial, institutional, or agri-business waste will be accepted. Residents do not even need to leave their cars, they simply drive up to the drop-off location, and volunteers will help unload any items for disposal, free of charge.
In March and October, KPSLB hosts its bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Day event, making it suitable for residents to dispose of their unwanted household chemicals and hazardous waste safely. At March’s event, a total of 15,534 pounds of household hazardous waste was collected from 385 vehicles that participated in the HHW Collection Day.
A complete list of items that is and isn’t acceptable is available online at www.cityofpsl.com/hhw.
