FPPD looking for driver in fatal hit and run

The Fort Pierce Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian in 3200 Block of South U.S. Highway 1 that happened Friday at 8:30 p.m. A 59 year old male died on the scene.

The victim had a driver license from Maine on him. He was staying at the Red Roof Inn, and was crossing from a convenience store he had just visited across the street from the hotel when he was hit by a southbound vehicle. The driver fled the scene, but debris left behind indicates the vehicle was a dark green Ford SUV. There also was some video from a nearby business that helped investigators determine some of the circumstances of the crash.

Officers are looking for the driver and vehicle, which would have front-end damage (until it gets repaired). No suspects have been identified, but the information is circulating in the news and social media.
