Fort Pierce, Florida (treasurecoast.com)- On 11/17/2022 at 5:27 p.m., Fort Pierce Police Officers, Saint Lucie County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Saint Lucie County Fire Rescue responded to South Causeway Beach, located at 420 Seaway Drive, in reference to immigrants fleeing a vessel.

FORT PIERCE POLICE: IMMIGRANTS FLEE A VESSEL AT SOUTH CAUSEWAY BEACH

A citizen who observed the boat hit the dock and witnessed a group of Creole-speaking immigrants exiting in haste, called 9-1-1 to notify authorities. The boat, named the Cross Star, was carrying adult males, females, and juvenile passengers.

Saint Lucie County Fire Rescue responded as a precaution for anyone who may have been in need of medical assistance. As of 7:01 p.m., approximately 25 of the immigrants were located and turned over to the Department of Homeland Security. There were no reported injuries.
