Fort Pierce man charged with kidnapping child, 30-year-old and chasing them with hunting knife

Fort Pierce, Fl  (treasurecoast.com)- A Fort Pierce man was arrested Sunday after police said he kidnapped an 11-year-old and a 30-year-old and chased them with a hunting knife.

On June 7, 2020 at 5:22pm, Police responded to the Shell Gas Station located at 1795 SW St. Lucie West Boulevard for reports of a disturbance involving a male suspect (later identified as James A. Wilson) armed with a knife; chasing two victims (30-yr old adult & 11-yr old child).

Police learned an altercation ensued between James Wilson and the adult victim while in Fort Pierce. James Wilson drove the victims from Fort Pierce to Port St. Lucie, against their will. James Wilson battered the adult victim just prior to stopping at the Shell gas station on St. Lucie West Boulevard. James Wilson grabbed the victim by the throat and hit the victim on the face with the back of his hand and in doing so, he displayed a knife and threatened the victim.

While the car was stopped at the gas station, both victims ran inside of the gas station, asked for Police to be called and locked themselves inside of a room at the back of the store. James Wilson walked into the store looking for the victims and forced his way into the back room causing damage to the door and lock. James Wilson fled upon the arrival of police and after a short foot pursuit, he was apprehended. The knife (a large hunting style knife) was recovered inside of the car. The adult victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and the child did not report any injuries. James Wilson was transported to St. Lucie County Jail.

On June 7, 2020, twenty-six-year-old James Anthony Wilson -DOB 1/4/1994, E Weatherbee Road, Fort Pierce, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon without intent to kill, Battery, Battery by Strangulation, Criminal Mischief, Child Abuse without great bodily harm, Kidnap/False Imprisonment/Adult, Kidnap/False Imprisonment/Child, Trespassing, and Resist Officer without violence.
