Fort Pierce lays out criteria for land proposals

Fort Pierce, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- Two companies with eyes on a piece of land in Fort Pierce now have an idea from the city on what it would take to get approved to build there. Virgin Trains USA and Audubon Development are both interested in building a mixed-use commercial project on the H.D. King site in downtown Fort Pierce.

Yesterday, the City Commission laid out the criteria they will use to judge the two proposals. The most important aspect will be the preliminary development plan, followed closely by financing. After that, the council will look at economic feasibility, schedule, and each companies qualifications. Preliminary traffic assessments and meeting community redevelopment goals round out the criteria. That piece of land isn’t the only Treasure Coast property that Virgin Trains USA is interested in. They are also considering another Fort Pierce location on Depot Drive behind the Sunrise Theatre, and they are looking at the city of Stuart for a potential stop.

The City Commission is scheduled to choose a developer 2 p.m. June 13.
