Former MC Little League bookkeeper arrested

Former MC Little League bookkeeper arrested on May 12.

A Palm City woman was entrusted to manage the funds of a Martin County Little League. She paid back that trust by stealing nearly $14,000 in league funds over a one year period.

35-year old Kandy Christine Penenori of Palm City was the bookkeeper for the Martin County Little League. They were operating out of Wojciezak Park for more than a year.

She had direct access to the league’s debit and bank numbers.

In February, members of the Board of Directors asked her to provide bank statements and login information to the accounts. Penenori never complied to their requests. Instead following the request, she became unreachable.

Board members followed up with the league’s bank and noticed thousands of dollars in account charges that were not pertaining to league business.

Charges included purchases from Walmart, BJ’s, Target, Bass Pro, Groupon and many more.

The theft totaled nearly $14,000.

Kandy Penenori was arrested and taken to the Martin County jail on a $100,000 bond.
