Florida partially complies with White House request for voter information

Florida partially complies with White House request for voter information.

Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner says the Sunshine State will partially comply with requests to provide a White House commission with voter information.

The information, however, will not include the most private of details, which is exempt from public release per Florida state law.

Last month, the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity asked states to provide voter data, including the last four digits of social security numbers, and other personal information.

Florida will provide names, addresses, dates of birth, and political party affiliation, but will not include driver’s license information and social security numbers.

The Trump administration announced plans to keep voter roll data it has requested from all 50 states and the District on White House computers under the direction of a member of Vice President Pence’s staff, it told a federal judge Thursday.

The disclosure of the White House role came in a government filing required in a lawsuit by the Electronic Privacy Information Center, a watchdog organization that has asked a federal judge in Washington to block the requests for voter data until the impact on Americans’ privacy can be fully assessed.

Trump  appointed Hans von Spakovsky  to spearhead the White House’s search into allegations of widespread fraud in the 2016 presidential election.

“I think there are number of people who have been active in promoting false and exaggerated claims of voter fraud and using that as a pretext to argue for stricter voting and registration rules,” said Rick Hasen, an election law expert at the University of California at Irvine. “And von Spakovsky’s at the top of the list.”
