Five people killed in plane crash into Lake Okeechobee

Palm Beach County– PBSO received information that a small airplane went down just north of Pahokee airport (400 yards from shore). One individual was observed swimming away from the airplane, however, has not been located.

The flight departed from Tampa International Airport and was en route to Pahokee Airport when it crashed. It was a two-engine Piper aircraft with 6 seats.

PBC Fire Rescue divers are currently searching the waterway.

PBSO Marine Unit Deputies and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue personnel recovered five individuals from the aircraft fuselage. All individuals are deceased.

The death investigation will be handled by PBSO Violent Crimes Division. The airplane crash will be investigated by the FAA and NTSB.

More information will be released when it becomes available.
