FHP: Bicyclist killed after being struck by SUV in Martin County

Stuart, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- A bicyclist was killed after getting hit by an SUV Monday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Here is the report from FHP:

“A bicyclist (Pedestrian 1) was riding his bicycle from the parking lot of a convenience store (Step In Food) onto Cove Rd to travel west. The bicyclist was in the middle of the westbound lane. Vehicle-1 was traveling westbound on Cove Rd approaching the bicyclists location. Vehicle-2 was traveling westbound on Cove Rd directly behind Vehicle-1. The driver of Vehicle- 1 did not observe the bicyclist in the roadway, resulting in Vehicle-1 colliding with the bicyclist. The driver of Vehicle-1 left the scene of the crash after the collision. Vehicle-2 then ran over parts of the bicycle and came to final rest on the westbound shoulder facing west. Both Vehicle 1 and the driver were located a short time after at the drivers residence. The bicyclist, was transported to Martin South after impact with Vehicle-1, where it was pronounced deceased. This case is still pending investigation.”

 

The name of the person on the bicycle has not been released. It is pending notification of the next of kin.
