Fertilizer Banned In Unincorporated Counties

Yesterday wasn’t just the start of hurricane season. Fertilizer banned in unincorporated counties.

From now through September 30th the use of fertilizer in unincorporated  St Lucie and Martin Counties is prohibited.

The four-month summertime prohibition period aims to reduce the amount of harmful phosphorus and nitrogen entering local water bodies, a crucial step towards improving and maintaining water and habitat quality.

Five dollars’ worth of phosphorous costs local governments $5,000-$50,000 to remove from the waterway.
