On 11/24/16 at approximately 12:45 am, an officer on patrol in the area of 101st Street and Esperanza Circle conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a lighting infraction.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Jose A. Vargas. During his initial encounter with him, the officer detected numerous signs of potential alcohol impairment. A check of his license status revealed it to be suspended. He was arrested for the license suspension and processed for DUI. He ultimately failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test. A search of his vehicle incident to arrest produced under 20 grams of marijuana.
