TREASURE COAST – In observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, lane closures are suspended on most projects until Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Construction and maintenance-related lane closures on state highways in Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties are expected January 2 through 5, weather permitting, at the following locations throughout the Treasure Coast.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

MARTIN COUNTY

 

  1. Kanner Highway / State Road 76, from Lost River Road to south of Monterey Road

Description: Under this 4.3-mile-long project, Kanner Highway is being widened from a four-lane divided highway to a six-lane divided highway. Additional work on this project includes: widening the bridge over the South Fork St. Lucie River; drainage improvements, including construction of five retention ponds; construction sound walls at Fisherman’s/Somerset Cove and Whitemarsh Reserve; guardrail improvements; signalization upgrades; and turn lane and bicycle lane improvements.

Cost/Completion: $20.8 million. Completion is expected in spring 2019.

Traffic Impact:

  • The speed limit on Kanner Highway from Lost River Road to Indian Street has been reduced from 50 MPH to 45 MPH. The speed limit will remain at 45 MPH after project completion.
  • One lane in either direction of Kanner Highway between Lost River Road and Martin County High School (MCHS) may be closed intermittently Wednesday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for drainage work and roadway widening.
  • One lane in either direction of Kanner Highway between Lost River Road and Martin County High School (MCHS) may be closed intermittently Wednesday and Thursday night from 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. for bridge & drainage work.
  • The sidewalk of the east side of Kanner Highway just south of MCHS will be intermittently impacted for short periods of time Wednesday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. with flagmen holding pedestrian traffic so construction vehicles can enter & exit the pond area.
  • The southbound sidewalk along Kanner Highway between Pomeroy Street and South River Drive is closed through January 2018 for drainage work. Pedestrians are being detoured to the northbound sidewalk along Kanner Highway at Indian Street and Pomeroy Street.

 

  1. I-95 Interchange at Kanner Highway (State Road 76 / Exit 101)

Description: This 0.745-mile project includes widening Kanner Highway (SR 76) at the I-95 interchange, reconstructing the I-95 entrance and exit ramps, drainage, milling and resurfacing, signing & pavement markings, and signalization. Cost/Completion: $5.79 million. Completion is expected in early 2018.

Traffic Impact:

  • The outside eastbound lane of Kanner Highway at the I-95 overpass will be closed Wednesday and Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Jan. 12 for water blasting and re-coating of the pier wall.

 

  1. State Road 710 / Warfield Boulevard from East of Kanner Highway (State Road 76) to the Martin / Palm Beach County Line

Description: This 5.572-mile project includes reconstructing State Road 710 to a 4-lane divided roadway with a 40-foot sodded median, concrete pavement, installing a new drainage system, and constructing a new wildlife crossing west of Martin / Palm Beach County line.

Cost/Completion: $27.99 million. Completion is expected in spring 2020.

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane in either direction of SR 710 may be intermittently closed Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for roadway widening. Two-way traffic will be maintained by a flag crew.
  • Traffic in both directions of State Road 710 just west of the Palm Beach County Line is narrowed to one lane in each direction, with eastbound traffic diverted to the existing inside westbound travel lane. The speed limit on westbound State Road 710 at this transition area will be reduced from 60 MPH to 45 MPH.
  • Traffic in both directions of State Road 710 just east of Kanner Highway is narrowed to one lane in each direction, with eastbound traffic diverted to the existing inside westbound travel lane.

 

  1. I-95 Resurfacing Project from Bridge Road (Exit 96) to Indiantown Road (Exit 87)

Description: I-95 is being resurfaced from south of Indiantown Road (State Road 706) in the Town of Jupiter to north of Bridge Road (County Road 708) in Martin County. Improvements under this 9.8-mile project consist of resurfacing I-95 mainline from south of Indiantown Road (SR 706) to north of Bridge Road (CR 708) and I-95 interchange ramps at Indiantown Road (Exit 87) and Bridge Road (Exit 96), minor shoulder and guardrail repairs, and replacement of the southbound bridge approach slab at approximate mile marker 89.5.

Cost/Completion: $17.18 million. Completion is expected in fall 2018.

Traffic Impact:

  • Two northbound lanes of I-95 from Indiantown Road to Bridge Road will be closed Wednesday and Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving.

 

  1. Kanner Highway (State Road 76) I-95 Interchange Landscape Improvements

Description: The improvements under this contract consist of installing trees at the Kanner Highway (SR 76) I-95 Interchange and irrigation & pump installation.

Cost/Completion: $1.46 million. Completion is expected in early 2018.

Traffic Impact:

  • Intermittent shoulder closures may occur at the Kanner Highway I-95 interchange Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

  1. State Road A1A & Sewall’s Point Road Signalization Project

Description: The improvements under this contract consist of upgrading signalization by installing new mast arms, pedestrian detectors, and closed-circuit television; sidewalk and driveway improvements; and minor landscaping on State Road A1A (NE Ocean Boulevard) at the intersection of Sewall’s Point Road.

Cost/Completion: $459,999.69. Completion is expected in early 2018.

Traffic Impact:

  • Intermittent sidewalk closures may occur at the State Road A1A & Sewall’s Point Road intersection Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to install mast arms. Detour signage will be in place to direct pedestrian traffic.

 

  1. NE Causeway Boulevard from Indian River Drive to State Road A1A in Jensen Beach

Traffic Impact:

  • The turn lane for westbound NE Causeway Boulevard traffic turning north on to Indian River Drive will be intermittently closed Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through June 2018.
  • The north sidewalk along NE Causeway Boulevard from Indian River Drive to SR A1A is closed for building construction. This sidewalk closure is anticipated to be in place through June 2018. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the south side of the roadway.

 

 

  1. LUCIE COUNTY

 

  1. Indrio Road Widening Project

Description: Indrio Road is being widened from west of the I-95 interchange to east of Emerson Avenue (State Road 607). This 2.7-mile project includes: reconstructing the existing two-lane Indrio Road to a four-lane, divided highway with a raised median; constructing a 6-foot sidewalk along the south side and a 12-foot-wide multi-purpose trail along the north side of Indrio Road; realigning Spanish Lakes Boulevard to connect with Koblegard Road; reconstructing Koblegard Road from Indrio Road north approximately .5 mile; and installing new highway lighting, signage and signalization.

Cost/Completion: $23.95 million. Completion is expected in spring 2019.

Traffic Impact:

  • The speed limit on Indrio Road between the I-95 interchange and Emerson Avenue has been reduced from 55 MPH to 45 MPH. The speed limit will remain at 45 MPH after project completion.
  • One lane in either direction on Indrio Road may be closed Wednesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for roadway widening. Two-way traffic will be maintained by a flag crew.
  • One lane in either direction on Emerson Avenue may be closed Wednesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for roadway widening. Two-way traffic will be maintained by a flag crew.
  • One lane in either direction on Spanish Lakes Boulevard may be closed Wednesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for construction activities. Two-way traffic will be maintained by a flag crew.

 

  1. Midway Road Widening Project, from S. 25th Street to U.S. 1

Description: This 1.8-mile project includes: reconstructing the existing two-lane Midway Road to a four-lane, divided highway with a raised median; installing a new signal at Sunrise Boulevard; constructing a new bridge over the North Fork St. Lucie River; constructing a 6-foot sidewalk on the north side and a 12-foot multi-purpose trail on the south side Midway Road; constructing 4-foot bike lanes on both sides of the roadway; reconstruction of S. 25th Street approximately 1000’ to the south & north of Midway Road; reconstruction of Sunrise Boulevard from W. 1st Street to Charlotta Street; reconstruction of Oleander Avenue from W. 2nd Street to Merritt Ditch; drainage improvements, including constructing 6 retention ponds at 5 locations; and signage, signalization, and lighting improvements.

Cost/Completion: $26.85 million. Completion is expected in spring 2020.

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane in either direction of Midway Road between 25th Street and U.S. 1 will be closed Wednesday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Two-way traffic will be maintained with a flag crew.
  • One lane in either direction of Oleander Avenue between West 1st Street and just north of Midway Road by Merritt Ditch will be intermittently closed Wednesday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Two-way traffic will be maintained with a flag crew.
  • One lane in either direction of Sunrise Boulevard between West 1st Street and Augusta Street will be intermittently closed Wednesday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Two-way traffic will be maintained with a flag crew.
  • One lane in either direction of 25th St. from 1,200’ north to 500’ south of Midway Road may be closed Wednesday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. A flag crew will maintain two-way traffic.
  • One lane in either direction of Melville Road just south of Midway Road may be closed Wednesday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. A flag crew will maintain two-way traffic.
  • The inside northbound U.S. 1 to westbound Midway Road turn lane is closed around-the-clock to accommodate roadway widening. The inside southbound U.S. 1 to eastbound Midway Road turn lane is closed around-the-clock to accommodate roadway widening.
  • The eastbound Midway Road to southbound Oleander Avenue right turn lane is closed around-the-clock to accommodate roadway widening. The westbound Midway Road to northbound Oleander Avenue right turn lane is closed around-the-clock to accommodate roadway widening. Traffic is still able to turn right via the existing through lane.
  • Oleander Avenue is closed approximately 650 feet north of Midway Road at Merritt’s Ditch through January 7, weather permitting, to install a drainage structure. Motorists should detour via Edwards Road or Midway Road to U.S. 1.

  1. I-95 Bridge Deck Replacement Project at Glades Cut Off Road (County Road 709) and Ten Mile Creek

Description: The I-95 bridge decks are being replaced over Glades Cut Off Road & the FEC Railroad (approximate mile marker 125) in the City of Port St. Lucie and over Ten Mile Creek (just south of Okeechobee Road / Exit 129). Work on this project includes: replacing the bridge decks on I-95 over Glades Cut Off Road (CR 709) & the FEC Railroad and over Ten Mile Creek (just south of Okeechobee Road / Exit 129); milling and resurfacing approaches to bridge decks; re-striping approaches to bridge decks.

Cost/Completion: $13.46 million. Completion is expected in summer 2019.

Traffic Impact:

  • The speed limit on southbound & northbound I-95 at the two overpass locations — Glades Cut Off Road overpass (approximate mile marker 125) and Ten Mile Creek overpass (just south of Okeechobee Road / Exit 129) — has been reduced from 70 MPH to 60 MPH.
  • The outside lane of I-95 northbound at the following locations is closed around-the-clock for the traffic diversion:
    • Glades Cut Off Road overpass (approximate mile marker 125)
    • Ten Mile Creek overpass (just south of Okeechobee Road / Exit 129)
  • The inside lane of I-95 southbound at the following locations is closed around-the-clock for the traffic diversion:
    • Glades Cut Off Road overpass (approximate mile marker 125)
    • Ten Mile Creek overpass (just south of Okeechobee Road / Exit 129)
  • Traffic may be reduced to one lane in either direction of I-95 at the Ten Mile Creek overpass (just south of Okeechobee Road/Exit 129) Wednesday and Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Traffic may be reduced to one lane in either direction of I-95 at the Glades Cut Off Road overpass (approximate mile marker 125) Wednesday and Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Northbound I-95 traffic at the Ten Mile Creek overpass (just south of Okeechobee Road/Exit 129) is diverted to the west, utilizing the southbound overpass, to facilitate bridge deck replacement. Two lanes of traffic in each direction are maintained at the bridge.
  • On Thursday morning, Jan. 4, northbound I-95 traffic at the Glades Cut Off Road overpass (approximate mile marker 125) will be diverted to the west, utilizing the southbound overpass, to facilitate bridge deck replacement. Two lanes of traffic in each direction are maintained at the bridge.

 

  1. McCarty Road North Bridge Replacement Project

Description: Work on this 0.12-mile project includes: replacing the McCarty Road Bridge over Ten-Mile Creek, raising the bridge approximately 2 feet above the existing bridge elevation to better accommodate flood creek water elevations; replacing both approach slabs; roadway reconstruction and widening immediately north and south of the new bridge; drainage improvements including new inlets and installation of a French-drain system and providing slope protection/channel lining below the bridge to prevent erosion; and installing signing and pavement markings. The new bridge configuration will be a two-lane undivided road with 12’ lanes, outside shoulders, and a sidewalk on the east side of the bridge.

Cost/Completion: $1.47 million. Completion is expected in spring 2018.

Traffic Impact:

  • Full Closure: The McCarty Road (County Road 712A) north bridge, from Twin Creeks Drive north for 0.12 miles, is closed around-the-clock through April 2018 to replace the bridge. During this time, motorists should detour via Okeechobee Road or Midway Road to Shinn Road.

  1. Peter P. Cobb Bridge (SR A1A) Rehabilitation and Observation Walk Replacement Project

Description: The Peter P. Cobb Bridge rehabilitation and observation walk replacement project over the Intracoastal Waterway in the City of Ft. Pierce includes: replacing the existing observation walkways, installing scour countermeasures along the channel bottom under the bridge, and making repairs to deteriorated concrete on the bridge pier columns.

Cost/Completion: $7.93 million. Completion is expected in spring 2020.

Traffic Impact:

  • All lanes are open through January 5.

 

  1. U.S. 1 Signalization Upgrade Project

Description: The U.S. 1 signalization upgrade project from State Road 70 / Virginia Avenue to State Road A1A / Seaway Drive in the City of Ft. Pierce is currently underway. This 2.195-mile project will upgrade 11 signalized intersections along U.S. 1 by implementing Adaptive Signal Control Technology in which traffic signal timing adapts based on daily (real-time management of traffic) traffic demand. This project also includes reconstruction at ADA curb ramp locations. Signalization will be upgraded at the following intersections: State 70 / Virginia Avenue, Ohio Avenue, Chipola Road / Parkway Avenue, Georgia Avenue, Delaware Avenue, Citrus Avenue, State Road 68 / Orange Avenue, Avenue A, Avenue C, Avenue D, and State Road A1A / Seaway Drive.

Cost/Completion: $932,300.48. Completion is expected in spring 2018.

Traffic Impact:

  • Intermittent closures of auxiliary lanes at all signalized intersections along the project will occur Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to install video detection devices.

 

  1. U.S. 1 between LaBuona Vita Drive and Veterans Memorial Parkway in Port St. Lucie

Traffic Impact:

  • One southbound lane of U.S. 1 will be closed Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through January 5 to build a temporary access road.

 

  1. Seaway Drive / State Road A1A from Indian River Drive to U.S. 1 in Ft. Pierce

Traffic Impact:

  • One westbound lane of Seaway Drive will be closed Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Jan. 12 for drainage and concrete work.

 

  1. U.S. 1 between Midway Road and Edwards Road in Ft. Pierce

Traffic Impact:

  • One northbound lane of U.S. 1 will be intermittently closed Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Mar. 16 for utility relocations.

 

  1. I-95 at the Gatlin Boulevard Overpass in Port St. Lucie

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane in each direction of I-95 at the Gatlin Boulevard overpass will be closed Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Jan. 2018 to install drilled shaft foundations and Osprey Nesting Structures.

 

  1. Port St. Lucie Boulevard (State Road 716) from East of Cameo Boulevard to Bayshore Boulevard in Port St. Lucie

Traffic Impact:

  • Advance Notice: One outside eastbound lane of Port St. Lucie Boulevard and the eastbound right turn lane onto Bayshore Boulevard will be closed Tues., Jan. 9 through Fri., Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for landscaping.

 

  1. Kings Highway and Indrio Road Intersection in Ft. Pierce

Traffic Impact:

  • Intermittent lane closures will occur at the Kings Highway & Indrio Road intersection Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for restriping. Two-way traffic will be maintained by flag crews.

 

  1. U.S. 1 at Sunshine Boulevard in Ft. Pierce

Traffic Impact:

  • One southbound lane of U.S. 1 will be closed Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for utility work.

 

 

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY

  1. I-95 (SR 9) from just north of State Road 60 (Osceola Boulevard/Exit 147) at Vero Beach to the Indian River/Brevard County Line

Description: I-95 is being widened from just north of State Road 60 to the Indian River/Brevard County line. Improvements in this 12.5-mile-long project include: adding one lane on I-95 in each direction; milling and resurfacing the existing lanes; signalization and lighting improvements; Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) improvements, including closed-circuit television cameras, Dynamic Message Signs and vehicle detectors; removal/replacement of the existing bridges over CR 512 (Fellsmere Road); construction of a noise barrier wall adjacent to the Encore Sunshine Travel RV Resort; and reconstruction of the interchange at CR 512, including the ramps and turn lanes. Cost/Completion: $50.6 million. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2018.

Traffic Impact:

  • Motorists should be alert for slow moving construction vehicles entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • The speed limit has been reduced to 60 mph in the work zone.
  • Periodic lane closures in either direction of I-95 from north of SR 60 to the Indian River/Brevard County line will occur Tuesday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for construction activities.
  • Lanes may be shifted into permanent configuration on I-95 from north of SR 60 to the Indian River/Brevard County line Tuesday through Thursday both northbound and southbound from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists are asked to use caution in the work zone. Southbound I-95 traffic from MM 153 to MM 151.5 is shifted to the two inside lanes.
  • Northbound I-95 from Exit 147 to MM 151 (approximately four miles) is shifted to the two inside lanes for paving activities.
  • Northbound I-95 traffic is shifted to the two outside lanes north of Exit 156 (CR 512) for paving activities.
  • Southbound I-95 traffic at MM 151 is shifted to the two inside lanes.
  • Full Ramp Closures: On Jan. 3 and Jan. 4, 2018, weather permitting, the entrance and exit ramps to northbound and southbound I-95 at Exit 156 (CR 512) will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving. The alternate back-up days for the ramp closures are Jan. 8 and Jan. 9. The schedule of closures are as follows:
  • Jan. 3: The northbound off ramp at Exit 156 (CR 512) will be closed. Motorists will exit at Exit 147 (SR 60) and head west to CR 512 to re-enter I-95 at Exit 156. The southbound on ramp at Exit 156 (CR 512) will be closed. Motorists will be detoured along CR 512 to SR 60 to enter I-95 at Exit 147.
  • Jan. 4: The northbound on ramp to Exit 156 (CR 512) will be closed. Motorists will follow the detour from CR 512 to Babcock Street to re-enter at Exit 175 (Malabar Road). The southbound off ramp at Exit 156 (CR 512) will be closed. Motorists will exit at Exit 175 (Malabar Road) and follow the detour to Babcock Street to enter I-95 at Exit 156.

 

  1. Central Railroad Corridor Greenway (CRCG) Pedestrian Overpass

Description: The Central Railroad Corridor Greenway (CRCG) Pedestrian Overpass project runs from west of I-95 to North County Regional Park. Work on this 2-mile project includes: constructing a 12-foot shared use path and a pedestrian overpass over I-95, providing pedestrians and bicyclists with convenient access to area parks, conservation areas, recreational and educational facilities; maintaining an open drainage system with swales and minor culvert crossings; and installing lighting, architectural towers, and specialty signage at the bridge location.

Cost/Completion: $4.6 million. Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2018.

Traffic Impact:

  • Intermittent shoulder closures may occur at the northbound I-95 entrance ramp from County Road 512 Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through February 2018.
  • Intermittent shoulder closures may occur at the southbound I-95 exit ramp at County Road 512 (Exit 156) Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through February 2018.
  • The inside southbound lane (of three) of I-95 just north of Fellsmere Road (Exit 156) is closed around-the-clock through January 2018.

 

  1. 17th Street Shoulder Widening & Resurfacing

Description: Work on this 0.72-mile shoulder widening and resurfacing project on 17th Street (State Road 656) from U.S. 1 to 17th Street Causeway Bridge in the City of Vero Beach includes: widening the shoulder along 17th Street from U.S. 1 to 17th Street Causeway Bridge to accommodate 6.5 feet average wide buffered bike lanes in both directions; drainage, sidewalk and detectable warning surfaces; signalization improvements including installing a new mast arm at the NW corner of 6th Avenue, and upgrading pedestrian detectors; milling & resurfacing existing lanes; and striping improvements.

Cost/Completion: $3.06 million. Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2018.

Traffic Impact:

  • The outside eastbound lane of 17th Street from U.S. 1 to 6th Avenue is closed around the clock through February 2018 for shoulder widening.
  • The outside westbound lane of 17th Street from 6th Avenue to just east of Indian River Boulevard is closed around the clock through March 2018 for shoulder widening.
  • Intermittent sidewalk closures may occur along 17th Street from U.S. 1 to Indian River Boulevard for widening and utility work. Detour signage will be in place to direct pedestrian traffic.
  • One lane in either direction of U.S. 1 at the 17th Street intersection may be intermittently closed Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for curb operations.
  • One lane in either direction of Indian River Boulevard at the 17th Street intersection may be intermittently closed Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for curb operations.
