Face Mask requirements loosening as more residents receive vaccinations
Treasure Coast (treasurecoast.com)Face mask requirements across the Treasure Coast are loosening as more residents receive COVID-19 vaccinations.
Each county had different policies throughout the coronavirus pandemic as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended people to wear face masks to slow the spread. Most remaining mask mandates were repealed at the beginning of May when Gov. Ron DeSantis rolled back restrictions. However, private businesses still could make their own rules.
Now, 48% of the area’s population was at least partially vaccinated at the end of May, according to the Florida Department of Health and the U.S. Census Bureau. The percentage of all residents, regardless of age, is 56% in Indian River County, 44% in St. Lucie County and 51% in Martin County.
As of May 31, 10.3 million Floridians and more than 314,200 Treasure Coast residents have received at least their first dose of the vaccination.
More vaccinations mean many local businesses are changing their policies regarding masks.
