Dr. Edie Widder is a MacArthur Fellow, a deep-sea explorer and conservationist in Florida who combines her expertise in oceanographic research and technological innovation with a commitment to reversing the worldwide trend of marine ecosystem degradation. In 2005 she helped foundORCA, the Ocean Research & Conservation Association, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the study and the protection of marine ecosystems and the systems they sustain through development of innovative technologies, plus science-based conservation action and public education. She has also spearheaded the development of water quality monitoring systems called Kilroys. As a world authority on marine bioluminescence, Edie has conducted many deep dives in submersibles and he has helped develop tools for deep-sea exploration.
