Caribbean-American health fair to feature free health screenings, food, and fun
PORT ST LUCIE, FL – The Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of the Treasure Coast and the Caribbean American Cultural Group will host the inaugural Caribbean-American Community Health Fair on September 9, 2023, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Holy Faith Episcopal Church at 6990 South Federal Highway, Port St. Lucie, Florida 34952. No registration is required for the free event.
This family-friendly fair invites local communities to take charge of their health by “knowing and loving their numbers” with free screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass index (BMI) and A1C blood glucose. Walgreens will provide free flu shots for seniors and flu shot vouchers for those without insurance. Educational workshops will explore the topics of stroke, diabetes, nutrition, healthy eating habits, mental health, and stress management.
As a special treat, attendees will receive a complimentary healthy Caribbean lunch and a free T-shirt while supplies last. The health fair also promises to entertain with Caribbean-style Zumba, games for children, and raffle drawings for prizes. WFLM 104.5 The Flame will broadcast live from the event and legendary Rev. St. Hope- WCNO 89.9FM will talk about his personal health experience. Attendees can also explore a Healthy Lifestyle Products Showcase and booths on various health topics.
“We want to help our Caribbean-American community live healthier and happier lives, and this event will offer them free access to vital health services and information,” said Marie Lissa Letin, Chair and Co-Founder of the Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of the Treasure Coast. “We will also have fun activities, delicious food, and giveaways to celebrate our culture and community.”
Dawn Bloomfield, President of the Caribbean American Cultural Group, said the partnership with the chamber of commerce is key to reaching the community.
“The collaboration effort with HACCOF-Treasure Coast is the perfect opportunity to develop a targeted, culturally appropriate educational campaign on stroke and diabetes prevention, empowering community members to make informed decisions about their health.”
