Elderly Port St. Lucie man dies after home invasion attack

Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com-An elderly man attacked during a home invasion died Tuesday from his injuries.

On June 9, 2020, forty-year-old James Michael Simpson  was charged with Homicide-Murder Dangerous Depraved w/o Premeditation, for the death of eighty-year-old Donald Stannard (victim). Bond -150000.00

PSL Police need public’s help identifying suspect of home invasion who attacked an elderly man

On June 2, 2020, at 1:44 pm, Police responded to the 1500 block of SE Pitcher Road for reports of an elderly male victim requesting help. The eighty-year-old victim was transported by St Lucie County Fire/Rescue to a nearby hospital with significant injuries, but non-life threatening.

Police learned a neighbor called 9-1-1 after finding the victim lying on the floor of his home. The victim was attacked by an unknown white male suspect. The suspect stole the victim’s JEEP WRANGLER and the victim’s credit cards.

Suspect description: White male, thin build, about 5’6 -5’10 in height, 175-180lbs, wearing gray colored sunglasses, a light blue face mask with dolphins or sharks and a dark gray t-shirt.

UPDATE: Police learned that on June 3, 2020, the victim’s stolen credit card was used at an unknown location in Opa Locka Florida. The suspect was wearing a dark gray t-shirt with “CALLDUTY” on the front, jeans, and brown boots.

On June 4, 2020, James M. Simpson became aware through social media he was wanted by PSL Police when he saw photos of himself on the PD Facebook/Twitter posts, therefore he drove himself (in the victim’s Jeep) to the St. Lucie County Jail. PSL Police interviewed him and a confession was obtained. James M Simpson is currently housed at the St. Lucie County Jail on the above listed charges.

On June 4, 2020, Police arrested forty-year-old JAMES MICHAEL SIMPSON JR. DOB: 8/25/1979, PSL. James M. Simpson was charged with Attempted Murder, Robbery/Home Invasion with weapon, Aggravated Battery-on person 65 years of age or older, and Grand Theft of Motor Vehicle.
