Deputy’s name released in Indiantown shooting.

Martin County (Treasurecoast.com)-The Martin County Sheriff’s Office identified the deputy who shot a machete-wielding man last week in Indiantown. Investigators say Deputy John Welliever shot and killed 47-year-old Jerry Richardson last Friday. Sheriff William Snyder said at a news conference earlier this week Welliever fired six shots, striking Richardson five times. Snyder said Richardson was carrying a 25 to 30 inch machete when he was shot. Welliever has retained a lawyer and is expected to give a statement later this week.
