Deputy saves man from burning car

For the second time in less than two months, Indian River County Sheriff’s Deputies saved a person from a burning car. At approximately 11:43 P.M. on May 8th, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call of a single vehicle crash where the vehicle was on fire in the 9400 block of 106th Avenue in Vero Beach. The caller was unsure if anyone was inside of the vehicle. Indian River County Sheriff’s Deputy David Dozer responded to the call and pulled the driver from the vehicle. The driver was transported by air to the Orlando Burn Center where he is still being treated. The Florida Highway Patrol responded to work the crash.

Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “Our deputies put their lives on the line every day. In the past six months, our dash cameras have caught one of our deputies being shot and returning fire, our deputies pulling a woman from her burning vehicle, last night’s rescue of a man from his burning car, and many more heroics that do not get national attention. Our deputies are to be commended for their daily efforts to protect and serve the citizens of Indian River County.”
