Couple hit by DUI suspect still hospitalized

Vero Beach, Fl  (treasurecoast.com)- A couple in their 90s remains hospitalized Monday after police said they were hit by a suspected DUI driver at a Christmas parade Saturday night in Vero Beach.

Investigators said Susan Harvey, 72, was driving a car at about 7 p.m. Saturday when she struck a man and a woman in the 3400 block of Ocean Drive.

Police spokesman Darrell Rivers said the elderly couple was struck from behind while putting their chairs in their car after attending the parade.

Harvey was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Jail records show that Harvey posted a $500 cash bond and was released from custody early Sunday morning.

She is due in court Jan. 4 at 8:30 a.m.

Woman arrested for DUI after striking couple at Vero Beach parade

Vero Beach, Fl (treasurecoast.com)-   A 72-year-old Vero Beach woman has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in a crash that injured two people Saturday night at the city Christmas parade.

Police say Susan Harvey was driving a car at about 7 p.m. Saturday when she struck a man and a woman on the 3400 block of Ocean Drive.

The couple in their 90s was struck from behind as they loaded chairs into the trunk of their car after the parade finished.

The couple were sent to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce and both were in “good spirits” following the crash. The husband and wife were kept overnight for observation.

Harvey scored 0.13 on a breathalyzer test, nearly twice the legal limit of .08

Bond was $500.00 dollars and it was posted.
