Commissioner Sarah Heard found not guilty on public records violations

Martin County, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- A jury voted Friday to acquit Martin County Commissioner Sarah Heard of public records violations after just 30 minutes of deliberations.

After the jury was dismissed, Heard hugged her husband, her attorneys and supporters who attended the week-long trial.

Heard was indicted by a grand jury last year on charges she violated the state’s public records law. The case goes back several years. At that time a  lawsuit was filed against the county by the Lake Point rock quarry where the company claimed Heard, and two other commissioners, destroyed or failed to produce relevant emails. Heard had said she couldn’t produce the emails because they were destroyed after her email account was hacked.
