Coast Guard assists 5 people 7 miles east of Fort Pierce

MIAMI — The Coast Guard assisted five people with their 28-foot vessel that was taking on water Monday 7 miles east of Fort Pierce Inlet.

Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector Miami received a call. It was from the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Finback at 3:32 p.m. They said  they heard, over VHF-FM radio channel 16 that a vessel with five people aboard were taking on water east of Fort Pierce Inlet. The cutter diverted and the sector watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce 45-foot Response Boat. There was a medium crew and a 33-foot Special Purpose Craft.

The cutter crew arrived on scene and dewatered the boat. The station crews arrived on scene and took the vessel in tow to Stan Blum Boat Ramp in Fort Pierce.

There were no reported injuries.
