Cheers to That: Martin County Sheriff Officers caught Champagne Thief

42-year old Ft Pierce Resident,  Enrique Fernandez was shopping at the Publix in Hobe Sound. He walked out with a cart full of champagne that was never paid for

Whoops.
Our fabulous Martin County Sheriff’s Uniform Road Patrol Deputies spotted the vehicle that he entered.
Fernandez, also known as Ricardo Betanqure, also known as David Delgado,  (I’d find it difficult to remember all these names) was initially the passenger in the vehicle. When deputies stopped the car, the driver stepped out. That’s when Fernandez jumped into the driver’s seat and fled. He made it to Interstate 95, where he cut across the median to avoid law enforcement. He didn’t anticipate the median to be layered with mud. As soon as the car hit the grass, it sunk, and Fernandez was stuck. True Story!

Deputies arrested Fernandez, charging him with grand theft, fleeing and eluding, and giving a false name.

Criminal Investigations Detectives also determined that Fernandez was wanted on multiple St. Lucie County warrants for felony retail theft, organized fraud, dealing in stolen property, and grand theft. He is being held at the Martin County Jail on a $120,000 bond.
