Celebrate World Ocean Day 2022 with the Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems Exhibit June 8

SOUTH HUTCHINSON ISLAND – The St. Lucie County Aquarium will celebrate World Oceans Day Wednesday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Whether you live on the coast or far inland, we all need a healthy ocean to survive and thrive. The ocean generates over half of the oxygen we breathe, helps feed us, and plays a major role in regulating our climate. By protecting our oceans, we also protect our climate, and our future. On World Ocean Day, people around our blue planet celebrate and honor the ocean which connects us all. Come celebrate World Ocean Day with the Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems Exhibit at the St Lucie County Aquarium.

This family-friendly event will feature activities, crafts, a beach clean-up, behind the scenes tours and more. Scientists from the Smithsonian Marine Station will be on hand to demonstrate the world-class research and ways that they’re working to help save our ocean. The Smithsonian Marine Station has teamed with St. Lucie County and other community partners to create this unique educational facility. The Exhibit is an outreach effort of the Smithsonian Marine Station, a branch of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History. For more information, visit www.stlucieco.gov/Aquarium.

This year’s conservation action focus is to protect at least 30% of our lands, waters and ocean by 2030 to create a healthy ocean with abundant wildlife and stabilize the climate. Join us in taking the World Ocean Day pledge. We will be making a mural of pictures and promises of all the ways we pledge to help the ocean.  Can’t join us in person? Consider joining members from more than 90 counties around the world in signing a petition in support of protecting our blue planet by going to www.WorldOceanDay.org/30×30.
