Captain Charlie’s Fish Tales May 12, 2017

Fishing Reports for Fort Pierce, Vero Beach and Jensen Beach, Florida. Inshore fishing charters on the Indian River Lagoon for redfish, snook and sea trout.

Inshore:

It has still been a battle with the winds lately. Add to that the rain chances and you get a challenging day on the water. We continue to go through the change in weather as summer fast approaches. Fortunately, there are plenty of places to fish on the river and get out of the worst of the winds.

The winter fish have pretty much left now. Sheepshead, drum and pompano will be fewer to catch, but we have found some nice fish recently to make it fun. It’s time to concentrate on snook, redfish and trout. There have been plenty of jacks and ladyfish in the river and some nice mackerel coming in with the tides, too. Tim and Paul were back to enjoy the fishing. Tim topped off the morning with an over slot snook. The guys caught a variety of species in spite of a slow bite morning.

Mark was out with me before he headed back north for the summer. We boated three snook and a nice grouper to make for an exciting day. Frank and Rusty were back again this year and found a decent snook bite with one slot keeper. The bonito were in the river and it was fun to end the day on them with reels screaming. John was back with James and Ann Marie to enjoy a morning on the water. It was a variety of fish that we enjoyed catching, but James topped off the day with an over slot redfish. Another fun week on the water!

Redfish

The redfish bite will pick up now and you can fish for them around docks and mangroves with DOA shrimp or live bait. Snook around the inlet will take live bait when you can get them. Look for trout in two to four feet of water with live bait or DOA shrimp. The bite for the sea trout has been slower for us this week. Mackerel on the incoming tides have brought some decent size in the inlet. Look for bonito to be feeding with them. Jacks are everywhere! Just have fun….

As always, remember, fishing is not just another hobby….it’s an ADVENTURE!!

Good Fishing and Be Safe,
