Calling all artists: Be a part of Port St. Lucie’s utility box project

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – The City wants to tap into the creativity of area artists during the next phase of its popular program to help beautify the City by wrapping utility boxes with artwork.

Artists of all ages who would like to see their work featured on one of Port St. Lucie’s utility boxes are now eligible to submit samples for consideration. There are no set themes or styles to follow in this round of wraps — and City officials are excited to see a wide variety of work from our talented artists.

It’s easy to apply. Artists can submit a color sample of their art electronically in a .jpeg format toNICE@cityofpsl.com.  Please provide your name and contact information. Minors must submit the name, relationship and contact information of their guardian.

Submission info

Submitters do not have to be professional artists. There is no limit to number of designs they may submit through July 2018. The City will accept a wide variety of artwork including drawings, paintings, photographs, etc. There are no restrictions on the type of art, other than it must be submitted as a .jpg file.

The City has wrapped utility boxes at 51 locations throughout this year in the first round of this project. In the first phase, most of the utility boxes were wrapped with photographs that depict Florida’s natural beauty. Artwork from local students was used to wrap some of the cabinets near schools and the Port St. Lucie Civic Center.

Artists are encouraged to submit artwork as soon as possible. During phase 2, the City plans to wrap about 50 more locations. The submitted artwork will be reviewed by the City’s Art Advisory Board. They will forward its recommended selections to City staff for final review and approval.

Artists will not be compensated, but they can have a signature on the image (in a 16 in. x 16 in. space on the wrap). Other contact information cannot go on the image, but will be shared via the City’s website and social media.

Artists with questions are encouraged to contact the City’s Neighborhood Services Department at 772-871-5010 or email NICE@cityofpsl.com.
