Bluefield Preserve Closed Due to Wildfire
St Lucie County, Fla– Bluefield Preserve in western St. Lucie County is closed until further notice due to a wildfire that has burned roughly 90 acres.
Crews from the Florida Forest Service and St. Lucie County’s Environmental Resources Department (ERD) have contained 90 percent of the fire. However because of the threat for this fire to rekindle, the county has closed the preserve indefinitely. The fire, which appears to be caused by lightening, poses no threat to any homes or structures.
Located at 30501 Bluefield Ranch Road, off State Road 70, near Okeechobee County, Bluefield Preserve encompasses more than 3,200 acres with 20-miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding.
St. Lucie County’s Environmental Resources Department manages more than 10,000 acres that are open to the public for passive recreation, which were purchased through a voter-approved bond referendum in the mid-90s. For more information about the county’s preserves visit www.stlucieco.gov/erd or call 772-462-2525.
