BankUnited Awards Grant to Help Hibiscus Children’s Center Youth
Vero Beach, FL — Hibiscus Children’s Center is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $2,500 grant awarded by BankUnited. Mr. Alphonso Williams, BankUnited Branch Sales Representative from the Ft. Pierce branch, delivered the generous donation to the Hibiscus Children’s Center Community Office on 25th Street in Ft. Pierce.
It is clear that BankUnited and Hibiscus Children’s Center are united by the goal of making a difference in the lives of at-risk youth. This grant will help Hibiscus continue to diligently work to meet the needs of Florida’s foster youth through the Career Pathways to Independence Program located on the Hibiscus Village campus in Vero Beach. Each year, the Career Pathways to Independence Program provides over 100 foster youth, ages 13 – 17, with the support, structure, and guidance they need to receive a high school diploma or GED. Additionally, youth who are ages 15 – 17 participate in career preparation and training to help build a strong foundation for the future.
One of the highlights of the program is taking the youth on an annual college tour. Last summer, youth visited Florida Atlantic University, Eastern Florida State College, Florida International University, University of Florida, Santa Fe College, and University of South Florida. This program helps to curtail the vicious cycle of poverty, hopelessness, abuse and neglect as children develop and acquire skills and the confidence to make informed and positive decisions about their future.
Thank you to BankUnited for your support of our youth and helping to make the future of our youth better and brighter.
